What the hell is a call to action, and why do I want to add one…?

The Ideas Machine with illustrator Sam Goodlet - www.samdrawsthings.co.uk

The first time someone said to include a “call to action” in my social media posts, I really didn’t get it.

Then someone else said “do you ever tell people how to work with you?!” And a penny dropped.
Because…. erm…. I didn’t.

I realised I was being a bit like a princess locked in a tower – you pretty much had to fight through a bramble thicket, and conquer a dragon to become my client….

The first time I did a social media post and told people some of the options for how to commission me, I got a sale!  It sounds really obvious, doesn’t it?  But I’m pretty sure I’m not the only creative person who has been acting like Rapunzel and then wondering why they’re not getting any work!

Soooo, in my Facebook Group I’ve been doing come cheerleading to help other people not make the same mistakes I have, and I’ve made a sheet to work through with lots of ideas 🙂 And here it is!

If you have a go, do let me know how you get on.

You can save the pictures below, or download the guide to including a call to action in your social media as a PDF here.

Show up and shine

Posted on: September 25th, 2019 by samdrawsthings No Comments

What would you do today if you weren’t feeling self conscious…? How would things be different if you weren’t worried about how you looked or came across? What would it be like if you just KNEW that your story was important and people needed to hear it? Can you imagine how it would feel if you just trusted that your friends (real or virtual) genuinely wanted to hear from you, see your face, or share in the beautiful thing you’ve just created…?

The thing is, they do!

What gets in our way is our own fear and worry.

And I’m done with it. I’m so tired of getting in my own way all the time! I want to be here, to show up and ⭐️SHINE⭐️ and I want to help you to do the same.

There are some wonderful people that I am super inspired by at the moment who are just so sparkly. And I know that the fear is still there for them. But they are showing up anyway and oh how I love them for it 😍

If you need some inspiration too, go and check out:

@sugarandsloth to meet Anita, queen of feeling the fear and doing it anyway, creator of cute and sweary things

@through_this_iris and meet Shiráz, traveller of the world, photographer extraordinaire and mental health warrior

@hedgerowyarns and meet Jane, classiest lady on my feed with the most beautiful photos and fabulous small business

And if you’d like a bit of help stepping up and shining, I’ve got a new little Facebook group called Show up and Shine.

It’s got me as your cheerleader and signposter to useful things that help with social media and other places you can show up, and it’s growing into a sweet and supportive little community.  I’d love you to come and join us 🙂

Banshee Yarns branding looking fab!

Posted on: May 29th, 2019 by samdrawsthings No Comments

It’s lovely watching a brand new brand blossom.  I love the moment when a logo I’ve designed starts appearing on things.  It takes on a life of its own away from my sketchbook and it’s pure magic.

The yarn bands I’ve designed for Banshee Yarns have just been wrapped around their first skeins of yarn, and their colours are so stunning, look! 🙂

A new logo for Angel Bloom

Posted on: April 12th, 2019 by samdrawsthings No Comments

Talented artist Hannah Corley came to me for help with her logo and branding as she starts her own business.  Like all my clients, I asked her to start with a Pinterest board of things that excite and inspire her.  This is such a great place to start when you’re thinking about your brand.

She sent me the most beautiful board packed with sunflowers, bees, warm browns and yellows and vintage fonts.  Sometimes people don’t really know what they want and I put together lots of different ideas and colour options for them to choose from.  Hannah knew just what she wanted the look and feel of her brand to be, so my job was to simply create some different logo layouts for her to choose from.  I tried the sunflower and the been in all sorts of combinations!

The final logo is classy, elegant and whimsical and I cannot WAIT to see it in use as Hannah starts her business 🙂
