Charlie Locks is a fabulous skin care company run by Julie Raines and her husband Mark. I am a massive fan of them and their approach – minimal packaging, yummy ingredients, beautiful products that really work and are made in the UK. Dani and Julie are in charge of social media and often share funny illustrations, photos and memes about skin care, beauty, make up and ageing from other sources.
Their brand colour is a gorgeous magenta, and they asked me for black and white illustrations with their pops of their house pink.
I started with a series of frames for Dani and Julie to fill with skincare ideas and product information in their daily social media posts in the build up to Christmas. They interspersed the images with their usual product and humour posts.
The plan now is to create some illustrations of the plants and ingredients they work with, and play with different ways of presenting them alongside their beautifully packaged products.
The brand was originally named after Julie’s granddad, but they felt it was time to introduce a new Charlie: a glamorous, fun and twinkly female character to use in their social media and PR. The overall aim of our collaboration is to create new Charlie branded content that is then shared by other people and sign posts to their brand, website and lovely products. Julie and I had a big chat about who Charlie is and what she’s like – imagining a timeless glamour puss with a magenta handbag, a very kind lady you might bump into when you ladder your tights or get caught in the rain and and she has just what you need to help in her seemingly bottomless bag… She will be making an appearance soon 🙂
